Dr Caren Walsh - GP, Medical Advisor and Lead for QI for the Directorate of Integrated Care, Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG), Department of Health

Caren is a GP Partner and trainer in a large GP practice in West Belfast.  She has had a passion for Quality Improvement since 2017.  Over the past five years Caren has developed a deep interest in Quality improvement.  Under her leadership her Practice team has been exploring the potential for the application of QI tools and the fostering of a QI culture.  The weekly QI meetings involve the whole team and whilst these initiatives have taken place amidst severely limited time and high care demand, the transformation in the GP Practice has been noted by the whole team and has resulted in greater productivity, the tackling of ‘many wicked problems’ and the fostering of greater joy and team wellbeing in work.

Caren has completed the Scottish Improvement Leader Programme (ScIL).  Caren is a mentor for the GP trainee QI training programme (EQUIP) and is co-lead for QI for RCGPNI.  In her new role as a Medical Advisor and Lead for QI for the Directorate of Integrated Care, Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG), Department of Health she aims to use her knowledge, experience and passion to embed a QI culture in Primary Care.
