NIAS SQE Graduates Celebrate
On Thursday 12th November 2020, NIAS held an event to celebrate the success of 9 graduates from the 2019/20 SQE Programme – Claire Hallowell, Aiden McDonnell, Ian Russell, John Clarke, Adrian McGrath, Chris Clarke, Julia Wolfe, Stephen French and Dominic Thompson all graduated but unfortunately, unlike previous years, they were unable to celebrate together and could not socialise over coffee and cake. Instead a two hour Zoom session provided the platform for the SQE Graduates to complete presentations on their amazing projects.
On the day they were joined by NIAS Chief Executive, Michael Bloomfield, the wider NIAS Senior Management Team, and colleagues from the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust who delivered the SQE 19/20 Programme. In total 5 teams were able to present and these included:
- Early Intervention for Potential Frequent Callers
- Improving the use of Capnography in the Pre-Hospital Setting
- Nursing and Residential Triage Pilot
- Improving Engagement of Schools in CPR Training
- Implementing a Paediatric Early Warning Score
Despite the challenges that the SQE participants faced since the outbreak of the Covid-19 all of the projects provided impressive results that will undoubtedly benefit patients who were central to all of these projects. This was recognised by all in attendance who provided positive feedback and encouragement to all.
The virtual event was also used to mark World Quality Day 2020 which had the theme this year of Creating Customer/Patient Value. Currently at NIAS there are a number of ongoing Quality Improvement Projects which are aimed at improving the level of care we provide and subsequently creating Patient Value. These projects include:
- Category 1 Improvement (taking a range of actions to improve our response to the most urgent calls)
- Safeguarding Improvement
- Patient Care Service Review & Improvement Project
To highlight the work of these projects three short videos were developed and showcased them at this event. Each video briefly described the steps taken to improve and the benefits for patients. These videos were well received by all in attendance who noted the fantastic work of the staff involved.
Congratulations to all the SQE graduates and well done to colleagues in the South Eastern Trust who provided great support and worked flexibly throughout a very challenging period to make sure the NIAS staff were able to complete such an important programme.
