25 March 2022
On the 8 and 15 of March the HSCQI Level Three QI Alumni came together for virtual ‘Art of Communications Masterclass with Cathy MacDonald.’ The masterclass delivered over two, two hour sessions offered participants insight to learn additional skills, tactics and contingencies to weave in to their existing skills and experience.
Cathy McDonald has over 30 years’ experience as an operational police officer, 11 of which was spent as a hostage and crisis negotiator, advisor and coordinator. The HSCQI Alumni actively participated in Cathy’s engaging and interactive sessions and had the chance to gain individual advice on how to navigate difficult conversations and utilise communication tools based on their own lived experience. The alumni left the sessions having advanced their understanding of communication approaches with a key focus on elements related to core emotional needs.
The feedback gained after the session was excellent. Participants commended Cathy for her wealth of knowledge and commented on the insightfulness of the refreshing subject matter.
Dr Johnathan Holland, Clinical Director for Anaesthetics in the Northern Trust shared his experience of the masterclass with the HSCQI Hub team, commenting;
“I wasn’t sure what to expect from the sessions but was pleasantly surprised with the content. There were so many valuable tools to take away and use daily in work and home life. I greatly appreciated the time at the end of the sessions where Cathy gave some tailored suggestions to individual problems and queries.”
